Pakistan Imposes Ban

In a move to keep the prices of essential food items steady during Ramadan, the Pakistani government has decided to stop exporting bananas and onions

Zahid Akhtar Zaman, Chief Secretary of Punjab, wrote a letter to the government, stressing the need for urgent action. He suggested putting a complete halt on exporting these goods to address the situation.

Under this ban, bananas cannot be sent to Afghanistan and Iran, while onion producers face restrictions on selling to Gulf countries. This step aims to maintain stability in the local market and prevent prices from going up too much.

Recent data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed that banana prices went up by 5.25% and onion prices by 2.87%. This underscores why the government is taking these measures to control exports.
